Ever considered a heart examination?
May 26, 2015
Have you ever considered a heart examination?
No? Perhaps you should.
Stay with me…
What I mean is: Have you ever considered planning for your heart?
The heart I’m referring to is not the heart that grows stronger with cardiovascular activities, but the heart (essence) of who you are.
You plan for:
· Grocery shopping
· Family vacations
· Holiday gathering / parties
· Financial necessities
· Personal goals
So why don't we have a plan for our hearts?
What if I told you that your heart is directly tied to your current treasure, your real treasure?
The Gospel writer Luke tells us, “For where your treasure is, there your heart (the very essence of you) will be also.” Luke 12:34 (NIV).
Let’s turn that around for a moment. Where my heart (my essence, my soul, my being is), IS where my treasure is. Wow! What does that say about my heart? Yours?
The idea of my heart and my soul being tied to my treasure, stopped me in my running shoes!
What a powerful concept to consider.
In this, Part I of "Heart Examination," we’re going to consider how fear might be impacting our heart.
Remember, fear in my heart impacts my treasure, who I am, what I can accomplish.
Do you have one of these?
· Fear of being rejected
· Fear of failing
· Fear of being laughed at
· Fear of being judged
· Fear of disappointing God
· Fear of ______________
If you answered yes to any of the above, continue reading.
(If you answered no to all of these, drop what you’re doing and call me immediately. I need you to share your secret!)
I realized fear in my heart was prohibiting me, Carla, from accomplishing my dreams and experiencing the richness of life in its purest form.
I actually experienced the negative impact of having fear in my heart. It delayed the launching of my business.
Some of us have used vision boards, an exercise that involves the use of pictures and words that represent our dreams. I began thinking…hmm...
Why not have a vision for the heart I want?
Solomon tells us “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23 (NIV).
It has taken me more than 50 years to realize ole Solomon was pretty wise and right on! My heart (my essence, my soul) is the most valuable asset I possess. No matter how poor, or how sick, or how anything, no one can ever take my heart away. Having said that, seems like I would WANT to plan and guard it!
I created a visual heart of where I want my heart to be - but more on that in future articles.
Fear is negativity. Fear holds us back. Fear and negativity create barriers in the confines of the heart and overpowers peace and joy.
I began kicking negativity to the curb.
How, you ask?
By focusing on what my heart wants, my life has changed - even transformed!!!
Now I feel like I have my proverbial running shoes on as I travel the path to my dreams! Each day is a joy. I know that God has already planned an incredible day for me. Will everything go my way? NO! But by staying focused on my blessings (big and small) I avoid being drawn into negativity.
Friends, we plan for grocery store visits, family vacations, parties, finances. Why not make a plan for our hearts?
To your peace, to your synergy and to your vision for your heart!
